Right to request Flexible working

Most employees of Tameside MBC have the right to request flexible working, some employees have had flexible working arrangement for many years and have recently been told that these arrangements no longer work for the organisation.  If you have an agreement in place and the employer wants to change that agreement then they need to negotiate with yourself and, if you are in a Union, your Union officer.  The employer also needs to have a good business case to change your agreement.

Everyone who is permanent and has continuously worked for the employer for 26 weeks is entitled to request flexible working. There may be some service areas that have a valid reason for not being able to meet the request.  For more information about Tameside MBC flexible working policy please follow this link. http://intranet2.tameside.gov.uk/chiefexec/hr/flexible/empguide/whatis.html

The policy is a little out of date as from June 2014 legally everyone is entitled to request flexible working.

There are many benefits to both the employee and the employer to have flexible working.  For the employer there may be a reduction in overheads, more motivated staff members who are also loyal to the business, retention of good quality staff, better performance, less sickness.

If you need help with flexible working arrangements please contact the office on 1061 342 3430.
